Going to Burghley Horse Trials this week? Check out The Mark Todd Collection trade stand.
Mark Todd: "The rest of the course had gone really well - I'd had a pretty good ride - with any big track you have a few little hairy moments but basically it had gone very well. I hadn't set out too quick, I was probably about 30 seconds down on the time. The horse still had plenty of running. He gets a little bit unreactive when he gets a bit tired. I just jumped in there and I didn't have a great shot and I went to shorten and nothing happened so I just kicked and we weren't in a good spot and just fell up the bank.He wasn't really tired, he still had plenty of running left but he just gets a bit unreactive at the end of a course - very disappointing." What are you going to feedback to the team now "Don't make the same mistake!" "Everything rode pretty much as we thought - it rode to plan. Every horse is different but I think you've certainly got to keep a bit of energy for the last part of the course. The rest of our horses are all good horses - mine was just an unlucky mistake. The owners are very disappointed too but that's just the ups and downs of the sport. You cant go quick on the course. If you try and go quick you'll end up not getting home.By the end of the day its not going to be very nice.
We scored 49.2 “Some bits he did really well, but there were a couple of stupid mistakes,” said Mark. “I’m not disappointed with him, but for a horse who can get distracted there’s a lot going on in there.”
