Responsibility for the processing of personal data
The Olympic Athletes Hub is operated by the IOC from its headquarters in Switzerland and the IOC is responsible for the processing of your personal data in relation to your use of the Olympic Athletes Hub (“Your Personal Data”).
Collection of Your Personal Data
In relation to your use of the Olympic Athletes Hub, the IOC may collect and process Your Personal Data in the following instances:
a) Registration and creation of a user account
Certain functionalities of the Olympic Athletes Hub require that you register with the IOC and provide the IOC with certain information about yourself (such as name, email address, date of birth, gender, country of origin, sport, login information, password or other information, as requested in the sign-up process). The creation of an “Olympian account” is open only to persons having competed in at least one edition of the Olympic Games (Games of the Olympiad or Olympic Winter Games) and may require the provision of certain additional information in relation to the participation in one or several editions of the Olympic Games. The IOC reserves the right to verify this additional information against its records or by contacting the concerned user.
The IOC may implement automatic tracking processes (cookies) gathering information (such as browser type, operating systems, IP address and the date and time of access) on the Olympic Athletes Hub to help improve the content of the Olympic Athletes Hub, customise the Olympic Athletes Hub based on users’ preferences and conduct research on traffic and audience. Cookies may also be used to store user names and passwords so that users don’t have to log in at each session. You may block cookies by changing your browser settings.
c) Publicly accessible information
The Olympic Athletes Hub aggregates publicly available information (e.g. texts, photos and videos) sourced from accounts opened by athletes having competed in the Olympic Games on third party social media services such as Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. Users having successfully completed their registration with an Olympian account are given the option to allow the Olympic Athletes Hub to aggregate information they make publicly available on third party social media services. Any person whose social media accounts are aggregated on the Olympic Athletes Hub may contact the IOC at email@example.com, or through the “Contact the IOC” functionality of the Olympic Athletes Hub in order to have their social media public profiles or other personal information removed from the Olympic Athletes Hub.
Use of Your Personal Data
The IOC may process Your Personal Data for the following purposes:
i. allowing your use of the Olympic Athletes Hub and, in case you decide to create a user account, allowing your registration with the IOC and the management of your user account;
ii. offering you products or services which you have requested or agreed to receive information about, in particular third party offers available on the Olympic Athletes Hub;
iii. allowing your participation in sweepstakes, challenges and competitions organised by the IOC and promoted on the Olympic Athletes Hub in which you decide to participate;
iv. ensuring the continuous maintenance and development of the Olympic Athletes Hub, to help diagnose problems and enhance your experience on the Olympic Athletes Hub;
v. ensuring security of the Olympic Athletes Hub and compliance with the Terms of Services and applicable laws and complying with any order from law enforcement authorities
vi. conducting research on the use of the Olympic Athletes Hub to improve the quality of the services offered to users;
vii. informing you by e-mail where we believe that certain information about the Olympic Movement’s activities is of interest to you, whilst giving you the choice of opting out of such service; and
viii. if you are the holder of an “Olympian account”, displaying on the Olympic Athletes Hub information that you have decided to make publicly accessible through you social media accounts, as long as you have not objected to such use;In addition, the IOC may use Your Personal Data for other purposes and will provide specific notice and obtain your consent where necessary.
Sharing of Your Personal Data with third parties
In addition to any information that you may decide to make publicly available through your use of the Olympic Athletes Hub, the IOC may share Your Personal Data with (i) IOC affiliates and third party services providers processing Your Personal Data on the IOC’s behalf and (ii) other third parties, when the IOC has received your consent to do so, or where required to provide you a service related to your use of the Olympic Athletes Hub.
The IOC also reserves the right to disclose Your Personal information where it is required to do so under applicable laws or pursuant to any judicial or administrative process, as well as if the IOC deems it necessary to investigate, prevent, or take action regarding illegal activities, or violations of any applicable terms of service of the Olympic Athletes Hub.

The Olympic Athletes Hub is not directed to persons under 13 and the IOC will not knowingly collect and process personal information about persons under that age. If you become aware that your child has provided us with personal information without your consent, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org or through the “Contact the IOC” functionality of the Olympic Athletes Hub. If we become aware that a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, we will take steps to remove such information and terminate the child’s account.
